Terms of Service

Last updated August 1, 2026

Agreement and eligibility

These Terms govern your download and use of the Throttlr website and macOS app. By downloading, installing, using, or purchasing Throttlr, you agree to these Terms. If you use Throttlr for an organization, you confirm that you have authority to accept these Terms for that organization. You must have legal capacity to enter into this agreement or use Throttlr with the permission of a parent or legal guardian.

Polar checkout

Polar Software, Inc. acts as merchant of record and authorized reseller for paid transactions. Polar handles checkout, payment, taxes, invoices, subscription billing, cancellations, and payment disputes under the terms presented at checkout and its Buyer Terms. These Terms are the supplier agreement governing your license to use Throttlr. If these Terms conflict with Polar's terms on a payment or transaction matter, Polar's terms control that matter.

License

Subject to these Terms, Throttlr grants you a limited, non-exclusive, non-transferable, non-sublicensable license to install and use the app for your own personal or internal business purposes. Throttlr and its software are licensed, not sold. We retain all rights not expressly granted to you.

The Free plan permits per-app traffic monitoring. A paid or trial entitlement also permits the Pro features described on the pricing page. A paid license key may be activated on up to two Macs unless a different activation limit is clearly shown at checkout. You may deactivate a Mac and move the license to another eligible Mac, subject to the applicable activation limit and reasonable anti-abuse controls.

Free plan and Pro trial

The Free plan has no scheduled expiration. Each eligible Mac may receive one 14-day Pro trial. The trial begins when the app first successfully activates it through the Throttlr licensing service. No payment method is required, and the trial does not automatically become a paid subscription. When the trial ends, Pro traffic-control features are disabled and the app returns to the Free plan unless you activate a paid license.

We may refuse or withdraw a trial where we reasonably determine that someone is attempting to obtain repeated trials through identity manipulation, automation, fraud, or other abuse.

Subscriptions

Monthly and yearly plans renew automatically at the billing interval and price disclosed by Polar at checkout until canceled. You may cancel through the Polar customer portal or by contacting Polar. Unless Polar confirms an immediate revocation, cancellation takes effect at the end of the current paid billing period, and Pro access continues until that date. After the subscription ends, the app returns to the Free plan.

Polar will provide legally required notices about renewals, price changes, and cancellation. A price change does not alter an existing subscription unless Polar notifies you and obtains any consent required by applicable law.

Lifetime plan

“Lifetime” means a one-time purchase of a non-expiring license to use the Pro features of the Throttlr product covered by your purchase, subject to these Terms and the activation limit. It does not transfer ownership of Throttlr to you and does not refer to your natural lifetime, the lifetime of any particular Mac, or a guarantee that Throttlr will be developed, hosted, or compatible with future versions of macOS forever.

The Lifetime plan includes, at no additional license charge, updates that we choose to release generally for the same Throttlr product. It does not require us to release any particular update on a particular schedule, maintain compatibility with hardware or operating systems that do not yet exist, or include a separately branded successor product or separately priced add-on. The license itself has no scheduled renewal or expiration. Lifetime requires an initial online activation and may make later best-effort checks for a refund, revocation, invalid license, or deactivation. A Lifetime license does not expire solely because Throttlr or Polar licensing services are temporarily or permanently unreachable.

System requirements and availability

Throttlr currently requires macOS 15 or newer and permission to install and operate its network system extension. Monitoring and traffic controls will not work unless the required extension is approved and running. Paid features require initial online activation. Subscriptions also require periodic validation with Throttlr and Polar licensing services and may receive a limited offline grace period after successful validation. Lifetime licenses may be checked periodically for later revocations but do not lose access solely because those services cannot be reached.

We may maintain, secure, update, or discontinue parts of Throttlr as the product evolves. We do not promise uninterrupted availability, but we will not intentionally remove paid access before the end of a current subscription period without providing any remedy required by Polar's terms or applicable law.

Acceptable use

You may not:

  • resell, sublicense, rent, publish, or redistribute Throttlr or a license key;
  • share a license key beyond its activation limit or bypass licensing controls;
  • reverse engineer, decompile, or disassemble Throttlr except to the limited extent that applicable law expressly permits those activities despite this restriction;
  • interfere with, overload, probe, or abuse Throttlr or its licensing services; or
  • use Throttlr unlawfully or to interfere with devices or networks you do not control.

You are responsible for obtaining authorization to monitor or control traffic on each device you manage and for the effects of the throttling and blocking rules you configure.

Suspension and termination

You may stop using Throttlr at any time. We may suspend or terminate access to paid features for a material breach of these Terms, fraud, an unauthorized chargeback or refunded purchase, license-key abuse, a security threat, or conduct we are legally required to prevent. Where reasonable, we will provide notice and an opportunity to cure a breach before termination.

A Lifetime license may not be revoked merely because we later change our pricing or stop offering that plan to new customers. It may be revoked only for the reasons stated above or where required by law. Termination does not remove rights or remedies that cannot be waived under applicable consumer law.

Cancellations and refunds

Except where required by applicable law, where the product was not delivered, or where Polar determines otherwise under its terms, payments are non-refundable. Canceling a subscription prevents future renewals but does not by itself refund the current billing period. Refund and billing requests must be handled through Polar rather than paid directly by Throttlr.

Nothing in these Terms limits a mandatory right of withdrawal, chargeback right, legal guarantee, or remedy for digital content that is faulty, unavailable, or not as described.

Consumer guarantees and warranty

If you are a consumer, you retain all mandatory rights under the law that applies to you, including rights relating to digital content being as described, of satisfactory quality, and fit for its usual or disclosed purpose. Nothing in these Terms excludes or restricts those rights.

To the maximum extent permitted by law and subject to those mandatory rights, Throttlr is provided “as is” and “as available.” We do not warrant that it will be error-free, uninterrupted, or compatible with every application, network configuration, device, or future operating-system release.

Limitation of liability

To the maximum extent permitted by law, Throttlr is not liable for indirect, incidental, special, consequential, or punitive damages, or for lost profits, lost data, or business interruption. Our total liability arising from Throttlr will not exceed the amount paid for the product or subscription giving rise to the claim during the 12 months before the event.

These limitations do not apply to liability that cannot lawfully be excluded or limited, including liability for fraud or fraudulent misrepresentation, willful misconduct, gross negligence, or death or personal injury caused by negligence. They also do not reduce any mandatory consumer remedy.

Changes to these Terms

We may update these Terms prospectively as Throttlr or applicable requirements change. We will publish the revised Terms and update the date above. If a change materially reduces an existing paid entitlement, we will provide advance notice and obtain consent or provide a remedy where required by law. Changes do not retroactively revoke a Lifetime license or shorten a subscription period that has already been paid for.

General

If a provision of these Terms is unenforceable, the remaining provisions continue in effect. A failure to enforce a provision is not a waiver. You may not transfer these Terms or your license without our consent, except where applicable law permits the transfer. We may transfer these Terms as part of a merger, acquisition, restructuring, or sale of Throttlr, provided that the transfer does not reduce your mandatory rights.
