Privacy Policy

Last updated August 1, 2026

Scope

This policy applies to the Mac App Store edition of Throttlr, the Throttlr website, and customer support. The Mac App Store edition uses Apple's StoreKit for purchases and does not use Throttlr's direct-download licensing API, Polar checkout, or Polar license keys.

If you obtained Throttlr directly from our website, see the separate Direct Download Privacy Policy. Contact us at support@throttlr.app with questions or privacy requests.

Network activity stays on your Mac

Throttlr processes network activity locally to monitor traffic and apply the throttling or blocking rules you choose. We do not receive traffic contents, browsing activity, domain names, application identifiers, or per-app network statistics from the Mac App Store edition.

App identifiers, bandwidth settings, recent aggregate speed history, traffic-control policies, and the verified Pro entitlement snapshot are stored locally in the app's sandbox or App Group container. The network extension reads that local information only to display activity and enforce your configuration.

App Store purchases

Apple processes App Store downloads, payments, subscriptions, introductory-offer eligibility, refunds, and your Apple Account information. Throttlr uses StoreKit on your Mac to verify whether a Monthly, Yearly, or Lifetime product is active. The app locally receives the product identifier, transaction identifiers, purchase date, expiration date when applicable, and verification status needed to unlock Pro.

The Mac App Store edition does not send those StoreKit transaction details to Throttlr servers and does not receive your full payment-card information. Apple may provide us with sales and performance reports through App Store Connect under Apple's own terms and privacy notices. Learn more in Apple's App Store & Privacy notice.

Website and support data

  • Support: we process your email address and anything you choose to send us so we can answer your request, diagnose a problem, or maintain a support history.
  • Waitlist: if you join a waitlist, we process your email address with your consent so we can send the requested product communications.
  • Website security: hosting and network providers may process ordinary request information. We temporarily process IP addresses in short-lived rate-limit records to protect the website from abuse.
  • Download counts: direct-download buttons record an anonymous click event and time. We do not attach an IP address, user agent, or persistent identifier to that event.

We do not sell personal data or use it for targeted advertising.

Why we process personal data

  • Contract: to provide support and the website features you request.
  • Legitimate interests: to secure, maintain, and diagnose our website and support services without using personal data in ways that override your rights.
  • Consent: to retain your email for optional waitlist communications.
  • Legal obligations: to comply with applicable law and lawful requests.

Recipients and international processing

Apple independently processes App Store and StoreKit information. Our infrastructure providers may process website, rate-limiting, email, and support data on our behalf. We may also disclose information when required by law or reasonably necessary to protect users, rights, safety, or service integrity.

These providers may process data outside your country. Where required, international transfers use an adequacy decision, approved contractual safeguards, or another lawful transfer mechanism.

Retention and deletion

  • Rate-limit records expire within their configured window, currently no longer than 24 hours.
  • Waitlist data remains until the waitlist is no longer needed or you withdraw consent. Support correspondence remains only as long as reasonably needed to provide support or resolve a dispute.
  • Local app settings, statistics, policies, and StoreKit entitlement snapshots remain on your Mac until removed by the app, expiration logic, or deletion of the app's data.

Apple controls retention of App Store purchase and account records. Contact Apple for requests concerning information Apple controls.

Your privacy rights

Depending on where you live, you may request access to, correction of, deletion of, restriction of, or portability of personal data we control. You may object to processing based on legitimate interests and withdraw consent at any time. Legal exceptions may apply, and we may need to verify your identity.

Send requests to support@throttlr.app. You may also complain to your local data-protection authority.

Security, children, and changes

We use reasonable safeguards designed to protect personal data, but no system can be guaranteed completely secure. Throttlr is not directed to children under 16, and we do not knowingly collect their personal data.

We may update this policy as Throttlr or applicable requirements change. We will publish revisions here, update the date above, and provide additional notice where required.
